6 Ways To Earn Different Sources Of Incomes As A Fashion Designer:

 Self Employed -Free Lancer:

The careers of some fashion designers centered around creativity of  self expression of fashion styles. Particularly those who create their own sketch portfolios.

However, many fashion designers do accept commercial assignments from corporate clients. Producing fashion work that meets the needs of a client is very different from producing work for your own pleasure. Corporate or commercial clients  also look at the marketability of the design, and you must meet whatever technical specifications required of your work. You must be comfortable in accepting feedback and making any requested changes. Budgets and schedules must be respected and you must communicate effectively with the client and keep them happy and satisfy.

Sometimes, to get help in lining up corporate assignments, you may need the service of a artist agency who promote your services, negotiate price of projects for contract and the terms of each project on your behalf. In return, he or she will take a commission.

However, when you are selling services directly to a business client, it is common to negotiate for a fixed fee basis.

Royalties:

You may also receive licensing income by retaining your ownership of your commercial fashion artwork(intellectual property rights or ownership) which your corporate clients can use subsequently.

Alternatively, if you are a freelancer who is subcontracting with an established creative firm, meaning that you have been brought in on a short term basis to help someone else project, you will be paid a freelance rate.

Fashion Professional Executive:

If you accept a staff position as a part of a creative team (for say, a clothes manufacturing company), you will receive a salary and remuneration package.

 Teaching:

Last but not least, as a fashion designer who has accumulated years of experience, you can also teach (full or part-time basis). Most fashion design schools bring in working professionals to teach on a part-time basis. Major reasons being:

1)      They give students access to latest information on market trends and techniques

2)      They provide opportunity for students to develop their personal networks like internships or freelance assignments

3)      They provide the students the opportunity of a POTENTIAL EMPLOYER

So in short, as a successful fashion designer your income streams can be unlimited! Start early and enjoy your work. With passion, hardwork and abit of luck you will be there! Go Look For Extra Income!

Cheers!
